How much RPGT do I pay when selling my property?

It depends on how long you held it. For Malaysian citizens/PR: 30% within 3 years, 20% in the 4th year, 15% in the 5th year, and 0% from the 6th year onwards. The gain also gets a Schedule 4 exemption (the greater of RM10,000 or 10% of the gain).

For Malaysian citizens and permanent residents, RPGT is 0% if you dispose of the property in the 6th year of holding or later. Companies pay 10% from the 6th year.

How is stamp duty calculated when buying a house?

Accepted Answer

The transfer (MOT) stamp duty is tiered: 1% on the first RM100,000, 2% on RM100,001–500,000, 3% on RM500,001–1,000,000, and 4% above RM1,000,000. The loan agreement is a flat 0.5%.

Yes. First-time buyers of residential property up to RM500,000 get a 100% exemption on both the transfer and loan agreement stamp duty, extended to 31 December 2027.
